Dr. Marek Roland-Mieszkowski

HEARNET is proud to announce the V.I.P. for the month of June to be Dr. Marek Roland-Mieszkowski.

Dr.Marek Roland-Mieszkowski is the president of Digital Recordings, one of the most innovative audio/acoustical companies in Atlantic Canada. He is also an Adjunct Professor at Dalhousie University and TUNS, where he teaches Acoustics, Psychoacoustics and instrumentation-related courses.

Marek was born in Poland in 1954. He received an M.Sc. in Physics from Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland in 1978 and a Ph.D.in Physics with a major in Acoustics in 1987 from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada.

Dr. Roland-Mieszkowski has shown dedication and love for his work over the years by making major scientific/technological contributions. Some of these contributions include: The first tomographic ultrasonic scanner in Canada, the first tomographic thermal scanner in the World, DCC method - for high-precision measurements of TOF (Time Of Flight ), DSA (Digital Speech Aid)- an electronic device to eliminate stuttering, DFG (Digital Function Generator) software for synthesis of stereo test signals (with very high precision), Digital Audiometer - software for testing of hearing, AUDIO-CD - compact disc for testing of hearing, and a CD-CHECK - compact disc for testing of CD players.

Dr. Roland-Mieszkowski has been a member of AES since 1988. He was also on the Board of Directors of CAA (Canadian Acoustical Association) and is currently the Chairman of IAAC (Institute of Acoustics of Atlantic Canada) and the Vice-Chairman of the Inventors' Society of Nova Scotia.

Some of his current research interests are in the area of DSP (Digital Signal Processing), DSdP (Digital Sound Processing), Psychoacoustics, Digital Hearing Aids, application of Digital Technology in Audiology and Speech Pathology, and Sound Synthesis and Sound Restoration.
